New Delhi: Retail broadband users may have access to ultra-fast download speeds of one gigabit per second plan by mid-2013 in nine Indian cities, according telecom infrastructure firm Radius Infratel.
"In the next 6-9 months, world class 1,000 Mbps or 1 Gbps (Gigabits per second) plans will be available in India to residential consumers. On connections like these, the same two hour HD movie will download in 30 seconds," Radius Infratel CEO Rajnish Wahi said.
A two-hour movie in high definition version will be about 2.2 GB (Giga Bytes) size, he added.
At average broadband speeds, the same movie takes over an hour for full download, experts said.
Whil Wahi declined to disclose the names of service providers or the cities where these plans will be first available, he said that discussions are underway and network deployment is already complete to enable this in Gurgaon.
He said Radius has partnered with real estate developers, including DLF, Unitech, Emaar MGF, Ansal, Mantri, Vipul, ATS, Omaxe, Vipul, M3M, Paramount and Prateek for fibre optic network that will provide high-speed broadband services in projects being developed by them.
"Radius network is already available in or near 3 lakh homes and is live in Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Greater Noida, Indirapuram (Ghaziabad). The network will soon be available in Bengaluru, Chennai, Pune, Mumbai and Chandigarh," Executive Director of Radius Infratel, Kuldeep Goyal said.
At present, Bharti Airtel and Tata Teleservices have launched 100 megabit per second plans for common users. These cost over Rs 5,000 per month.
According to reports, 1 Gbps Internet services were recently launched in Kansas City in the US.
Samsung Galaxy Note II can be pre-ordered on Samsung's India e-store for an advance payment of Rs 5,000. The cost of the phone would be Rs.39,990 which gives a tough competition to iPhone 5 priced at Rs 48,000.

The Justice Department sting is believed to be the first one involving pirated Android mobile apps, which is a huge, growing and profitable market for software counterfeiters.
Three Websites that allegedly sell pirated copies of Android apps have been shut down and seized by U.S. government authorities as part of ongoing efforts to battle online software piracy and counterfeiting around the world. The seized Web domains–Applanet.net, Appbucket.net and Snappzmarket.com–all now only display a "seizure banner" from the FBI and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). The banners notify visitors that the domain name has been seized by federal authorities due to copyright-infringement issues, according to an Aug. 21 DOJ statement.
“Cracking down on piracy of copyrighted works–including popular apps–is a top priority of the Criminal Division,” said Assistant U.S. Attorney General Breuer in the statement. “Software apps have become an increasingly essential part of our nation’s economy and creative culture, and the Criminal Division is committed to working with our law-enforcement partners to protect the creators of these apps and other forms of intellectual property from those who seek to steal it.” The shutdown of the three Websites is believed to be the first such government action specifically involving Android mobile apps in an online marketplace, said the DOJ. The shutdowns were conducted with the help and coordination of Dutch and French law-enforcement agencies.
A Justice Department spokesman could not be reached for additional comment. FBI agents downloaded thousands of copies of popular copyrighted mobile device apps from the three sites, which are "suspected of distributing copies of apps without permission from the software developers,” according to the DOJ.
The sites sold the pirated apps, and the money for the purchases was not sent to the developers who created them, as required with legitimate mobile app marketplaces. "In most cases, the servers storing the apps sold by these alternative online markets were being hosted in other countries, and our international law-enforcement partners assisted in obtaining or seizing evidence stored on these servers," according to the Justice Department statement. "Nine search warrants were also executed in six different districts across the country today as part of the operation."
“Criminal copyright laws apply to apps for cell phones and tablets, just as they do to other software, music and writings," said U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates of the Northern District of Georgia, in a statement. "These laws protect and encourage the hard work and ingenuity of software developers entering this growing and important part of our economy. We will continue to seize and shut down Websites that market pirated apps, and to pursue those responsible for criminal charges, if appropriate.”
The government has previously taken similar actions against other Websites that allegedly sell pirated or counterfeit software.
In January, the FBI shut down the Website, Megaupload.com, one of the largest file-sharing services on the Internet, on charges that it systematically abetted the widespread piracy of copyrighted music, movies, video and other intellectual property.
In a 72-page indictment in that case, the government charged seven people and two corporations, Megaupload Limited and Vestor Limited, of costing copyright holders more than $500 million in lost revenue from pirated movies and other content. The individuals face a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison on racketeering charges, five years for conspiracy to commit copyright infringement, 20 years on money-laundering charges and five years on related charges.
In December of 2011, a federal judge in Nevada ruled in favor of luxury brand Chanel and allowed the company to have about 600 different Websites shut down for selling counterfeit Chanel products.
This week’s criminal case against the Android sites included several federal agencies such as the DOJ's Task Force on Intellectual Property and its Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section; the Office of International Affairs; the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia; the FBI’s Atlanta Field Office; and six other U.S. Attorneys’ Offices, including the Southern District of Mississippi, the Middle District of Florida, the Western District of Michigan, the Southern District of Indiana, the District of Rhode Island and the Northern District of Texas.
Photos that reportedly provide a glimpse of the next iPhone full front panel have leaked online.
The photos, originally uncovered by UBreakiFix and posted this weekend by MacRumors, show the rumored 4-inch screen – taller than the iPhone's current 3.5-inch size.
The new iPhone is expected to carry the same pixel density as the current device, leaving app developers with an additional few inches of screen space to fill, MacRumors said. The photos show a zoomed-in look at the top of the panel, where serials numbers and an LCD connector are located.
Apple has not officially released any details on its new smartphone, which is expected to be revealed on Sept. 12. During a July earnings call, Apple CEO Tim Cook would only say that the company has "amazing new products in our pipeline that we look forward to discussing with you in the future," but kept mum about Apple's plans for the iPhone 5.
So far, iPhone rumors have tipped the aforementioned 4-inch screen, a move that is likely necessary as more and more Android phones push the boundaries on screen size, as well as 4G LTE connectivity.
Other changes are reported to include an 8-pin dock connector, a smaller SIM card slot, possible implementation of the new Nano-SIM format, and in-cell technology that would render an extra touch-screen layer unnecessary, therefore shrinking the screen size by about half a millimeter.
According to reports, the iPhone 5 could hit stores by Sept. 21, before rolling out to more international markets in early October.
So much so, some are comparing this ban on bulk SMSes by the government to curbing their right to freedom of expression
No sooner did the news of the ban on bulk SMSes and MMSes for 15 days across the country (starting August 18) spread, than the nation, including, of course, the world of social media, was abuzz ridiculing this new decree by the government. To check the spread of rumours, which has led to exodus of NorthEastern people from certain states, the government announced this ban. 'No one will be able to send more than 5 SMSes in one go and more than 20 KB of data through mobile phones during the ban period', read the move by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India ( TRAI), done in order to curb the spread of rumours meant to scare and create panic among the NE people in certain states. As a result, all those who must have tried sending more than five SMSes, received something which reads: 'Due to Govt. directives, More than 5 SMS per day are blocked. Please retry tomorrow. Anticipate your co-operation'.
Eid Mubarak? What has irked most of the people is that on any festival, it is commonplace to send SMSes to greet each other, but this five SMS limitation is a cause of worry as people can't send unlimited SMSes. "Since sending greeting cards and all is passe, we normally send SMS to greet each other and on the occasion of Eid, it was annoying as I was stopped after I sent 5 of them. And since Eid is the most important festival for us, I had to call up all my friends and folks," shared Rekha Ahmed (35). For 23-year-old Misbah Khan, who stays away from her family, it was worrisome, as she says, "I could send only 5 SMSes and sadly, I received very few Eid messages from folks and friends. I was upset and though the government wants to curb the spread of rumours meant to hurt the North-East people in India, they could have eased this limitation on festivals, at least."
Online fracas In the wake of the ban, one comment that was doing the rounds read 'Dear girls, if a guy sends u 5 messages today...Marry him immediately. He is the one.' While the hashtag '5 SMS' was trending on social networking sites, in no time, people took to the sites to voice their opinions. Check out some responses:
dorkU: 'Guys in a relationship celebrate'. Dhincachica: 'Live bars, Clubs beyond 11:30, films on cars, smoking in pubic & now the ban on SMS beyond 5 started here. It's Ban-galore indeed.' Panchajanya: 'After 5 SMS a day next what... 5 minute talktime per day?' Stupidosaur: 'Limiting to 5 SMS a day would encourage determined rumour mongers to buy more SIM cards & increase the efforts needed to track them, no?
Holy SMS! "I have this SMS pack which allows me to send unlimited SMS on a given day and with this nonsensical ban, my money has gone to waste because on calling the telecom operator, they said I won't be refunded the SMS pack money," laments Himanshu Tyagi (21). For some, banning SMS is like curbing their freedom of expression. "Nowadays, it is rare that we talk for hours over the phone and we prefer texting, but this 5 SMS limitation is like flouting our right to speech," reasons Kanika Jha (23). 26-year-old Aditi Jain, who works with an advertising firm rues, "Much of my work is done via SMS as most of my clients are based out of the city and we discuss work over SMS but it is getting difficult now because I can't be calling them every time for trivial issues also."
Some endorse the ban There are some people who are different from the herd and happy with the 5 SMS limitation. Shekhar Saini (24) is happy. He says, "I don't have to send those 'Happy Eid' messages to people now, I find it useless and I am glad that I won't even receive those useless forwarded SMSes." Anita Khanna (26) agrees. "Though I don't send many SMSes, there are people who send me such absurd forwarded messages and now, at least for few days, I will be spared of them."
Sob, sob: GSM and CDMA users Since the limitation is for GSM and CDMA mobile users, another joke doing the rounds reads, 'Iphone: Shit man, they have only 5 msgs a day; HTC: Ya, it's so rude; Blackberry: Now, whose your daddy'. It's starting a mobile brands war, almost, as users bandy words. "I was anti-Blackberry but today I realise the importance of owning that phone," says 23-year-old Anuj Khaitan.

Android 4.1, Jelly Bean, is the fastest and smoothest version of Android yet. Jelly Bean improves on the simplicity and beauty of Android 4.0, and introduces a new Google search experience on Android.
Fast & smooth
We put Android under a microscope, making everything feel fast, fluid, and smooth. With buttery graphics and silky transitions, moving between home screens and switching between apps is effortless, like turning pages in a book. More reactive and uniform touch responses mean you can almost feel the pixels beneath as your finger moves across the screen. Jelly Bean makes your Android device even more responsive by boosting your device's CPU instantly when you touch the screen, and turns it down when you don't need it to improve battery life.
Simple, beautiful and beyond smart
Expandable, actionable notifications.
Android has always put you in control when it comes to staying notified and connected. Now you can take action directly from the notifications shade. Late for a meeting? Email everyone to let them know. Missed a call? Call them back in an instant. And because they’re expandable, you can get an even deeper look into the things that matter most, like multiple emails or photos on Google+.
Widgets work like magic.
With Jelly Bean it's now even easier to personalize your home screen. As you place widgets on the screen, everything else automatically moves to make room. When they're too big, widgets resize on their own. Interacting with your favorite apps and customizing your home screen has never been easier.
Seamlessly take and share photos.
Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, made snapping photos super fast; Jelly Bean brings that same speed to the next step: viewing. Just swipe over from camera to filmstrip view to instantly view the photos you just took, and quickly swipe away the ones you don’t like. Now sharing — and bragging — are a breeze.
A smarter keyboard.
Android's dictionaries are now more accurate, more relevant. The language model in Jelly Bean adapts over time, and the keyboard even guesses what the next word will be before you've started typing it. With improved text-to-speech capabilities, voice typing on Android is even better; it works even when you don't have a data connection, so you can type with your voice everywhere you go.
Accessibility.
With Jelly Bean, blind users can use 'Gesture Mode' to reliably navigate the UI using touch and swipe gestures in combination with speech output. Jelly Bean also adds support for accessibility plugins to enable external Braille input and output devices via USB and Bluetooth.
Android Beam.
With Android Beam on Jelly Bean you can now easily share your photos and videos with just a simple tap, in addition to sharing contacts, web pages, YouTube videos, directions, and apps. Just touch two NFC-enabled Android devices back-to-back, then tap to beam whatever's on the screen to your friend. Instantly pair your Android phone or tablet to Bluetooth® devices like headsets or speakers that support the Simple Secure Pairing standard by just tapping them together – no more syncing or searching required.
The new Google experience on Android
The best of Google just got better on Android. The search experience in Jelly Bean has a new look-and-feel, and has faster and more natural Voice Search. And Google Now brings you just the right information, before you even ask.
A new look for Search.
Android has search at its core. With Jelly Bean, a redesigned experience uses the power of the Knowledge Graph to show you search results in a richer way. It's easier to quickly get answers and explore and browse search results.
Voice Search.
Sometimes you'd rather just speak your search query. Or just ask a question. Android lets you search the web with your voice, and it's convenient for getting quick answers on the fly. It speaks back to you and is powered by the Knowledge Graph, bringing you a precise answer if it knows it, and precisely ranked search results, so you can always find out more.
Google Now brings you just the right information at just the right time.
Google Now tells you today's weather before you start your day, how much traffic to expect before you leave for work, when the next train will arrive as you’re standing on the platform, or your favorite team's score while they’re playing. And the best part? All of this happens automatically. Cards appear throughout the day at the moment you need them.
Android Jelly Bean 4.1.1/Cyanogenmod 10 for LG optimus one is still in progress, alpha version is available now from xda developers.
Pls Don't try this if you are a noob or if you don't know much about android.

So in this topic, you'll get several hidden secret codes which can be used in any Google Android mobile phone to access things which are not accessible by default.
FYI These codes have been obtained by decoding various .apk files present in the phone firmware.
*#*#4636#*#*
This code can be used to get some interesting information about your phone and battery. It shows following 4 menus on screen:
* Phone information * Battery information * Battery history * Usage statistics
*#*#7780#*#*
This code can be used for a factory data reset. It'll remove following things:
* Google account settings stored in your phone * System and application data and settings * Downloaded applications
It'll NOT remove:
* Current system software and bundled applications * SD card files e.g. photos, music files, etc.
PS: Once you give this code, you get a prompt screen asking you to click on "Reset phone" button. So you get a chance to cancel your operation.
*2767*3855#
Think before you give this code. This code is used for factory format. It'll remove all files and settings including the internal memory storage. It'll also reinstall the phone firmware.
PS: Once you give this code, there is no way to cancel the operation unless you remove the battery from the phone. So think twice before giving this code.
*#*#34971539#*#*
This code is used to get information about phone camera. It shows following 4 menus:
* Update camera firmware in image (Don't try this option) * Update camera firmware in SD card * Get camera firmware version * Get firmware update count
WARNING: Never use the first option otherwise your phone camera will stop working and you'll need to take your phone to service center to reinstall camera firmware.
*#*#7594#*#*
This one is my favorite one. This code can be used to change the "End Call / Power" button action in your phone. Be default, if you long press the button, it shows a screen asking you to select any option from Silent mode, Airplane mode and Power off.
You can change this action using this code. You can enable direct power off on this button so you don't need to waste your time in selecting the option.
*#*#273283*255*663282*#*#*
This code opens a File copy screen where you can backup your media files e.g. Images, Sound, Video and Voice memo.

We're still in the middle of the whole 4G debate, where the original definition of 4G has had to be changed because of too much false marketing by big carriers, but that isn't stopping researchers from looking into what 5G mobile networks are going to look like. In fact, researchers at Brooklyn's Polytechnic Institute of New York University aren't just looking into it, they've received $2 million to make it a reality. NYU-Poly announced Thursday that it has received an $800,000 grant from the National Science Foundation, and that grant has been matched by $1.2 million from various corporate backers.
Not much is known yet about how it will all work, but the theoretical idea is to use the millimeter-wave spectrum to create a mobile network that is 1,000 times faster than 4G, and can handle 50-100 times more traffic. Of course, these claims don't mention what flavor of "4G" is being used as comparison. The original definition of 4G had been for speeds of 1Gbit/s down and 500 Mbit/s up, but those numbers have been altered to include what T-Mobile, Sprint, AT&T, and Verizon call 4G, which can be far far slower (sometimes close to 100 times slower actually).
The millimeter-wave spectrum would be the key, and it has a couple of benefits. First, it can handle the traffic, and second, it is completely unused right now. So far, it has been 2G which used spectrum up to 200 kHz, 3G which is up to 5 MHz, and 4G up to 40 MHz. The millimeter-wave spectrum is found between 3 and 300 GHz, so it has plenty of room to grow.
Of course, none of this will come to pass any time soon. The research team at NYU-Poly is hoping to have the technology operational by 2020, so we've got another 8 years before we see anything. Still, we're pretty sure that carriers will likely start misusing the term 5G well before then.
A new report courtesy of the World Bank says that currently there are over 6 billion mobile subscriptions, but that number “will soon exceed that of the human population.” That is pretty crazy to think about, especially considering that 12 years ago there were less than 1 billion.
While approximately 75% of the world’s population has a mobile phone, in many countries it is common for people to have more than one line. Between 2000 and 2010, subscription rates in low and middle-income countries increased at a mind blowing 1,500%!
The report notes that in these low- and middle-income countries it is the youth that is driving force behind the exponential growth. People under the age of 15 comprise 29% of the population in those nations. The World Bank says that developing countries are “growing richer, so more consumers can afford to use mobile handsets for more than just essential voice calls,” thus creating “unprecedented” opportunities for employment and education.
The study also points out that the rate of expansion we have seen attributes to lower prices and networks that double in bandwidth every 18 months. Overall, the study says the growth leads to more Internet access and high app downloads, which ultimately empower individual users and boost the economy as a whole. In short, since there is no underground Android army rising up (that we know of), more phones than us is a good thing.
Do not have time to appear on the Soup last two-core processor from Qualcomm, a leading manufacturer of mobile chipsets, has announced a new product - the quad APQ8064.
The new chipset is the flagship product in the line of Snapdragon S4.The four core Krait work at the maximum frequency of 1.5 GHz, and can use only one core at a frequency of 1.7 GHz.Following statements by the company, the chipset designed for laptops and tablets next generation, because it supports 3D-camera 20 megapixel, USB 2.0 OTG, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi b, g, n, 3G and 4G, and Adreno 320 graphics accelerator is capable of handling video resolution of 1080p.
Process technology at 28 nm produces an enormous computing power at a relatively small power consumption. So the principles of competition in the market of processors for desktops and laptops and work here: raise the frequency, embedded GPU in the chipset, adding core, reduce fabrication process. What's next?
We have seen quite a few Smartphones with a few apps for health-conscious folks, but none that dedicates itself to the health of patients with advanced tests and medical measurements. LifeWatch AG is a feature-packed health care Smartphone for patients and health conscious consumers. Although, the Android based phone features an antiquated version 2.3, it has the presence of a plethora of medical sensors powering seven health tests, combined with wellness-related applications and cloud-based services. Users can measure, track and analyze their medical measurements, take corrective action, plan meals, activities and more by simply placing a finger on one of the sensors. The tests that the Smartphone is capable of performing are one lead ECG, body temperature, blood glucose, heart rate, blood oxygen saturation, body fat percentage and stress levels.
Each of the medication tests is presented as an application and the system also has diet applications and programmable reminders for medications. All the data, which is automatically stored in the remote server as a cloud, shows up whenever and wherever you please. These results can also be shared with doctors and family members via text or e-mail. This gadget goes a long way in reducing your medical bills and provides access to tests sans the long queue. As of now, we don’t know how much the device costs or where it can be procured, but LifeWatch intends to launch the phone world-wide in partnership with local players.

According to Sammy Hub, Samsung plans to unveil the Galaxy Note 2 on August 30, during IFA 2012.The unit would emerge during the next Mobile Unpacked, the conference presentationof gadgets the company.
The site also reinforces some of the rumors last month, as the launch in September, a 5.5 inch screen, a quad-core processor Exynos, cameraup to 13 MP and Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean).
Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is now finally here! We’ve been waiting for the newest Android version, hearing all sorts of rumors all along, and there’s a lot to see in terms of new features, but the biggest improvement we’re extremely happy to see is that Google is finally seriously tackling the small but noticeable lag that’s often noticeable in the platform.
Part of it is due to the full multitasking Android comes with, and in ICS Google has really minimized it. With its Project Butter, though, the goal is to go one step further and idealistically have lag-free performance from our devices.
That’s what we’re most excited about, but there’s plenty more in terms of improvements and new features. Check out the images below walking you through all the new stuff in Jelly Bean
1. Project Butter aims to make Android devices lag-free
"Buttery graphics and silky transitions" is what you deserve with an operating system and that's what Jelly Bean aims to finally bring to Android. Touch responses are getting faster in JB and switching apps is getting smoother.
2. Google Now brings time and location-aware search and suggestions
Google Now knows where and when you are thanks to the phone's sensors, and it uses this information along with Google's Knowledge Graph to bring you search results and suggestions for the places you are and the times you visit them. It will initially be available in the United States.
3. Jelly Bean comes with ”Actionable” notifications
Actionable here means that you can take action directly from the notification bar. Say you have a missed call - you can now call back directly from the notification drop down
4. Widgets resize automatically to fit your screen
Widgets are now smarter and if you try to move a large widget to a screen with little space it will automatically resize to fit and other icons automatically figure out where to move to empty the needed space.
5. JB has a brand new Gallery with filmstrip view and swiping gestures to delete photos
Zero shutter lag and burst shots came with ICS, and this definitely results in tons more photos. JB brings a quick and easy way to view and delete the unnecessary ones with filmstrip view in the gallery.
6. The keyboard is now smarter with better auto correct.
Android Jelly Bean now comes with improved dictionaries. Predictive input gets really predictive and sometimes would even guess the word you want to type before you do.
7. Android now comes with Offline Voice Dictation
Best of all, now you don't need to be connected to the network for voice dictation - it works offline.
8. Accessibility is improved with Braille support and plugins for USB and Bluetooth output devices
Blind users now get touch and swipe gestures to navigate the UI, and accessability is improved.
9. Android Beam comes to NFC Jelly Bean phones
Phones with NFC and JellyBean will get the Android Beam function that allows sharing of contacts, pages, YouTube videos and more in a second.
10. Search gets a complete overhaul
The new search gets a visual overhaul to match the added power of the Knowledge Graph.
11. Intelligent voice search that speaks back to you
You've been able to search the web with your voice for a while on Android, but now the phone will speak back to you with intelligent answers.
12. Google Now cards pop up on your screen when and where you need them
Google Now will automatically pop up relevant cards when you're at a particular location. You're in an airport? Your boarding pass should be right there for you.
